Builder Menus

Most of what you do in the workspace starts with a right-click. There are two menus, and which one you get depends on what is under the pointer: the canvas menu for building the process, the step menu for working on a step you already have.

Both menus show a shortcut next to each entry. With the menu open, pressing that key runs the entry, so the sequence “right-click, A” adds a step without travelling to the item. Arrow keys move through the entries, Enter runs the highlighted one, and Esc closes the menu.

The canvas menu

Right-click empty canvas.

EntryShortcutWhat it does
Add StepAOpens the step picker at that spot
Add NoteNDrops a sticky note on the canvas
Add DataVCreates a value the whole process can use
Format ProcessFLays every step out again, following the connections

Add Step replaces the menu with a search box rather than opening a separate dialog: type a few letters of what the step should do, and pick from the matches. Your recent and favorite steps are offered first. See Add Actions.

A note is documentation on the canvas. It has no effect on the run and is there for whoever opens the process next, including you.

Add Data creates a process value, the same thing the Data tab holds. It is here because you usually discover you need a value while wiring up a step, not while looking at the data dictionary.

The step menu

Right-click a step. If several steps are selected, the menu acts on all of them.

EntryShortcutWhat it does
CopyCmd / Ctrl + CCopies the selected steps
PasteCmd / Ctrl + VPastes what you copied, at the pointer
DeleteDelRemoves the selected steps
Convert StepSwaps this step for a different one, keeping its place
Toggle Error HandlingTurns this step’s error branch on or off

Convert Step opens the same search box as Add Step. The step is replaced where it stands, and its connections are kept, so you can change your mind about which action to use without rebuilding the connections around it.

Toggle Error Handling gives the step a second outgoing branch for the case where it fails. Connect that branch to whatever should happen instead, see Error Handling.

Note

Copy and Paste also appear on the canvas menu once something is copied, so a step copied from one part of the process can be pasted wherever you right-click next.

The configurator menus

Above the configuration tabs sits the action bar, with the process’s validity, undo and redo, saving and deploying. Its overflow menu holds the two entries that are not part of everyday building:

  • Export downloads the process as a file.
  • New clears the workspace and starts a fresh process. You are warned first if the current one has unsaved changes.
